Apicetomy Oral Surgery
Apicetomy is a procedure where the infected tooth is treated by the surgical removal of the root tip (apex) and sealing of the root tip with a retro grade filling.
Apicetomy can take between 1-2 hours. Your dentist will numb the area and the tooth before surgery. This procedure is carried out under local anesthesia but occasionally, you may require conscious IV sedation.
Apicetomy
Apicetomies are indicated when:
- there is an infection at the root tip that fails to heal
- a cyst is attached to the tip of the root - a radicular cyst
